Fura da nono

Fura da Nono is a non-alcoholic drink that originated from the Fulani people of West Africa which includes Northern Nigeria.

Made from a mixture of a combination of fermented milk, local spices and ground millet grains; a glute-free grain. The spices being used, have antioxidant properties and with added vitamins such as thiamine, vitamin D, phosphorous and calcium, this drink is highly nutritious and packed full of supplements to maintain healthy bones.

It is a cold refreshing drink normally served in a calabash; a large hard-shelled globose fruit and enjoyed by the young and the old.

Interestingly, in order to make the drink ‘Fura da nono’, a type of food called ‘Fura’ or ‘Doonu’ needs to be prepared. ‘Fura’ (Millet dough ball) is a type of food that also originates from West Africa and the dough balls are the main ingredient in the drink.
